Deconstruction is a concept that has been read as relativistic, but I argue that it has a quasi-foundational capacity. If language is an institution, then deconstruction could be understood as a social bond. The Discourse of Deconstruction would have a common point of departure with the Discourse of the Analyst. Freud and Lacan have called psychoanalysis the practice of the impossible. Derrida, meanwhile, describes deconstruction as the experience of the impossible.
Freud’s work
Whether you agree or disagree with Freud’s ideas is a complex question. One thing that is clear is that his work will live on in psychology textbooks for years to come. In addition, his theories will influence the thinking of many other theorists.
Freud’s psychoanalytic work rests on two theoretical foundations. The first is his understanding of neurophysiology. The second is his understanding of dreams. Both of these foundations are based on a limited view of animal motivation. He also based his theories on the study of dream symbols.
Freud’s work was not immune to criticism. He published several books on psychology, including Project for a Scientific Psychology, Interpretation of Dreams, and The Ego and the Id. His theories have remained influential to this day, and have become central aspects of many current psychotherapeutic procedures.
Although his theories have been criticized, some still consider them valid, particularly as they apply to the culture of the turn-of-the-century. His theories were valid in the context of nineteenth-century Europe, but his construal of case material was biased and misleading. He also distorted scientific evidence to come up with his theory. These criticisms are hardly new and continue to reshape the world of psychoanalysis.
Psychoanalysis can work well in a variety of cultures and settings. While it is a highly personal process, it is largely a matter of individual choice and the person involved. Psychotherapists aren’t required to face their clients during talk therapy. In some cases, a psychotherapist may be the only person who can help a client with their emotional issues. However, psychoanalytic theory can be adapted to meet different cultural needs.
There’s a big difference between Freud’s work and that of mainstream academics. Although Freud was right about Victorian society, he was wrong about sex. A father, for example, has a role in the family’s life.
While Freud emphasized that infants display sexual behavior, he did not mention that infants’ breastfeeding behaviors are sexual in nature. This is not to say that every infant is sexually active, however.
